The County of Lennox and Addington is fortunate to have numerous Research and Development facilities within a close proximity to its borders. In neighbouring Kingston and Bellville there are more than two-dozen facilities that deal either directly or indirectly in this practice on a day-to-day basis. R&D doesn't always happen in bubbling lab beakers.
In L&A County, it can also occur in the field, literally. Our winegrowers are good examples. In Ontario, the majority of commercial wine grape species are viniferas. L&A growers are also experimenting with European hybrids that include Baco Noir, Seyval Blanc and Vidal. Vidal, for example, is the main grape cultivar used for Icewine production in Ontario. Through patient research and development, our growers will discover and develop the best varieties for their soils and climate.
